Similar to the previous 99 Jumpstarts to Research but designed for younger students, this book helps teachers and librarians to teach basic research and information literacy skills to children. To help them master the research process and narrow the limitless array of sources available on commonly researched topics in elementary and middle schools, students are taught a basic note-taking process and given specific source ideas and subject headings for each topic discussed. This book will be an invaluable tool to help school librarians and teachers broach the difficult task of beginning to teach the research process. Grades 3-8.

Teaches a basic note-taking process and gives specific source ideas and subject headings for a variety of topics. Grades 3-8.

Whitley (director, Teaching, Learning, and Distance Education, Kingwood College) and Goodwin, a reference librarian at Kingwood College, present 99 topics for research in this collection of ideas and activities for teachers of grades three through eight. Each "jumpstart" offers ideas to engage students, directions for refining the topic, suggestions for books and subject keywords to use, and lists of kid-friendly Internet sites and other resources, plus links to online lesson plans and enrichment activities. Research topics include animals, famous people, and children's literature. Annotation (c) Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
