Affective Teacher Education is one of the first books to provide teacher educators, classroom teachers, school administrators, and teacher candidates with research and recommendations related to affective education. All teachers want to become professional educators; they want find satisfaction and reward in their chosen careers. Likewise, all teachers want to show their students in all grade levels and in all subject areas how to acquire, apply, and appreciate appropriate dispositions or outlooks related to the course content and as a community of learners. This book guides and supports teachers to fulfill these two goals. Each chapter explores a different aspect of affective education and offers the reader useful suggestions to prompt self-assessment, professional conversations, and developmental activities. Affective Teacher Education helps teachers to visualize teaching and learning holistically, linking the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that students need to know, do, and feel, to achieve in school and become lifelong learners.

Recenzijas

Affective Teacher Education makes a significant contribution to the field of teacher education by addressing directly and unapologetically the importance of the affective dimension of the educational process. While acknowledging multiple domains of teaching and learning and their potential impact upon student learning, the authors take an in-depth look at teacher dispositions and practical applications of affective education, both for teacher educators and for PK-12 teachers. The book balances theory with practice and is a must-have resource for teacher educators and anyone else dedicated to improving student achievement and outcomes. -- Annette D. Digby, EdD, dean, Thayer School of Education, Wingate University, Wingate, NC Provides exploration and encourages discourse while making connections to research, practice, and the importance of professionalism. . . . Recommended. * CHOICE, April 2010 * Recent research and practice in education has verified the importance of dispositions and affective feelings in student cognition. This book describes the myriad ways that these less tangible but vital domains impact student development and outcomes. For those who are committed to improved student achievement based on test outcomes, this book is particularly vital as it considers the practices and outcomes of other dimensions of education. -- W Robert Houston, John and Rebecca Moores Professor of Education, Distinguished Teacher Educator, University of Houston
