"Why do ancient Egyptian statues so often have their noses, hands, or genitals broken? Although Late Antiquity appears to have been one of the major moments of large-scale vandalism against pagan monuments, various contexts bear witness to several phasesof reuse, modification, or mutilation of statues throughout and after the pharaonic period. Simon Connor was awarded his PhD in art history and archaeology by the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, in 2014. He has worked on various archaeological sites in Egypt, including Luxor, Dahshur, Tanis, and Heliopolis. He was a curator at the Museo Egizio, Turin (2014-2017), an Andrew W. Mellon Research Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (20172018), and an FNRS Research Fellow at the University of Ličge (20182021). He is the author of various articles and books, including Le statue del Museo Egizio (2016) and Źtre et paraītre (2020).
