Coombs (communication, U. of Central Florida) offers 17 contemporary and classic cases in crisis communication and management, to help students learn how to make decisions in their future roles as crisis managers. After outlining the case study method and key theories and principles, cases are presented for the precrisis, crisis response, and postcrisis phases, such as the Chick-fil-A same-sex marriage crisis, the Cadbury salmonella recall, the Pampers and Dry Max chemical burn rumor, the BP Texas City explosion, and the Union Carbide gas cloud that killed about 3,500 people in Bhopal, India, in 1984. Information for cases is drawn from public records. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
