In this fully revised third edition, Kirsten E.Schulze brings us to a new understanding of the causes, course and consequences of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. Schulze analyses the dynamics of the violence and explores the numerous attempts at resolving the conflict. She traces the origins of the conflict from their first intellectual roots in the 19th century through to the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 and the on-going, second Palestinian uprising and assesses why, in the cases of Israel-Egypt in 1978 and Israel-Jordan in 1994, negotiations succeeded in bringing about a lasting peace and why, in the cases of Israel, and the Palestinians, Syria and Lebanon, they failed to do so.

Written in a clear and accessible style, this fully updated second edition:

    • Has a new section on the Gaza Wars since 2006

    • Has a new section on the Arab Spring and the implications for Israel

    • Comes up to update the attempts at peace.

With a diverse collection of documents and a Chronology, Glossary, Guide to Further Reading, and a Who’s Who summarizing the careers and contributions of the main figures, this book is absolutely vital to understanding the current Israeli-Palestinian violence and its world-wide significance.

Recenzijas

"Kirsten Schulze has produced a comprehensive and concise account that is highly recommended. The Arab-Israeli Conflict provides a sweeping overview from the origins of Zionism and Arab nationalism to Israels 2014 invasion of Gaza and the stalled peace process. Written in an engaging and accessible style with maps, key documents, and a glossary of terms, it is an ideal text for introductory and advanced undergraduate courses."

Osamah Khalil, Syracuse University, USA

"Complete with appropriately selected documents, maps, a chronology and a handy whos who guide, Kirsten Schulze has delivered a comprehensive yet precise, balanced and digestible guide to the history of the Arab-Israeli Conflict from the rise of Zionism to the rise and fall of the peace process as well as more recent conflagrations. Essential reading for students of history, politics, Middle Eastern Studies and conflict resolution."
