The book analyses contemporary art spaces both in terms of production and consumption in Hongkong and Singapore, which all rose in the last decade. It is about embedding these places in the respective urban context as well as the spatial design of the respective institutions, from small studios to medium-sized galleries up to large art museums, for example Hongkongs M+ Museum by HdM. The book zooms in on architectural- and neighborhood-scaled case studies of contemporary art spaces in the cities, some of which exemplify the regions recent "museum boom". It will show how the spaces and their institutions are rapidly evolving architectural types. The political and social developments in both places will also be taken into account, as they have a direct impact on the places where art is produced and received.
