This book provides a concise summary about fundamental aspects of petroleum geology and geochemistry for graduate students, primarily from non-English-speaking countries. These fundamentals constitute about 40% of the book, while the remaining 60% deals with regional examples from petroleum geology of the Zagros basin of Iran. The regional examples are prepared using both published and unpublished (proprietary) data. The aim is to familiarize readers with the fundamental aspects of petroleum geochemistry and then provide typical examples from one of the world’s most prolific petroleum provinces.

Part I: Fundamentals of Petroleum Geochemistry.
Chapter 1: Hydrocarbon
Source Rocks.
Chapter 2: Reservoir Rocks.
Chapter 3: Petroleum Expulsion
and Migration.
Chapter 4: Petroleum Accumulation and Preservation.- Part II:
Examples From The Zagros Fold And Thrust Belt.
Chapter 5: Source Rocks of
The Zagros Fold and Thrust Belt (ZFTB).
Chapter 6: Petroleum Reservoirs And
Seal Rocks of The ZFTB.
Chapter 7: Hydrocarbon Generation/Expulsion And
Migration In The ZFTB.
Chapter 8: Preservation of Petroleum Accumulations In
The ZFTB.
Majid Alipour is currently assistant professor of petroleum geology and geochemistry at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. He has a BSc in Geology from University of Tabriz and MSc and PhD from Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. He has more than 10 years of industrial experience with a background in the application of multi-dimensional basin and petroleum system modeling techniques in petroleum exploration. He has authored more than 20 papers and books in different scientific journals. His main interest is paleo-environmental reconstruction using organic geochemical data with special focus on organic-rich shale successions. His main leisure activity is to visit and study the wonderful surface outcrops of the Iranian Zagros Fold and Thrust Belt.
