Based on her successful work across a range of schools, this book consists of 10 sessions that make up a programme to help students who are at risk of exclusion. Each session has detailed facilitator notes and accompanying worksheets on the CD-Rom. The young people learn how to think, communicate, behave and relate to each other and other people in more useful ways.

The book offers:

- content that works for schools, Pupil Referral Units and any setting working with young people on behaviour management;

- advice on dealing with common pitfalls and difficult scenarios;

- guidance on how to work with parents and carers to help them understand how they can reinforce the approach at home;

- activities that work with the 10 to 18 age range.

Everything in this book has been tried and tested with young people who are at risk within their school settings, and for most of them it has been a turning point in their lives.

Recenzijas

This programme has enabled at risk pupils to understand and take responsibility for their own behaviour. They have made positive changes to achieve success in their lives both in and out of school. It has had a fantastic impact -Jule Bather, Headteacher, Larches House Short Stay School

The whole programme is well put together, so each session builds on the previous one and models learnt early in the programme are reapplied later on. Chris says she responded to feedback from her young participants, making changes and increasing the programmes relevance and effectiveness. I think its a superb piece of work, but the ultimate test is, does it work? Well, the statistics and the participants feedback says it does; and whenever Ive visited the project Ive noticed an atmosphere thats warm and safe and purposeful, and the young people Ive met there are full of praise for Chris and her team.

I hope practitioners working with hurt young people and their sometimes challenging behaviour make use of the Toolkit -John Marsden, Marsden Therapy The book is clearly organised, with each chapter outlining the work for one of the 10 sessions. This book is a very useful resource for anyone working with challenging students who are at risk of exclusion. -- Dave Vizard
