Brassai's best-known series of photographs, "Paris de Nuit" and "Paris Secret", range from lyrical, mysterious night views of the Seine, city streets and gardens to pictures of brothels, opium dens and night-club interiors. But, as this book's essays exlain, these series represent only a fraction of the rich diversity of his work. Published to accompany a travelling exhibition in America, the book includes photographs from the personal collection of Brassai's widow, as well as examples of his drawings and sculpture.
