Electronics is now China's largest industry and is growing at a rate of nearly 20 percent annually. Pecht (founder and director, Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering, U. of Maryland) describes the technologies, manufacturing, capabilities, and infrastructure that have made this possible. Chapters cover economic conditions and policy; China's science and technology organizational structure, infrastructure, and development programs; and the historical development of the electronics industry. He then provides reviews of current conditions among the various electronics sectors: semiconductors; electronic manufacturing service industries; connectors, cable assemblies, and backplanes; computers; telecommunications; software; and select others including avionics and military electronics. A final chapter addresses pros and cons of conducting business in China. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
