"In order to best understand the impact an intervention can have on pediatric patients, a basic understanding of both brain development and brain injury are necessary. Initial theories of brain injury proposed an advantage of early age, suggesting greater plasticity of the brain. However, growing literature supports the contrasting heuristic provided by Maureen Dennis.1 This widely accepted theory emphasizes the increased vulnerability of the developing brain. Instead of focusing solely on the age of thechild at brain injury to illustrate the vulnerability of the brain, Dennis recommends examining the extent to which a skill is developed at the time of injury"--

This book is a comprehensive and contextual guide to implementation of a family-systems focused, culturally competent cognitive remediation program for youth with neurological and medical disorders. The primary goal of the C-READY program is to guide successful transitioning to adult healthcare providers and medical management, and even more so, successful transition to adult independence.
The book is divided into three main parts: Part 1 provides the empirical evidence and theoretical framework for the development of the C-READY program, outlining the brain injury and recovery model in which the program is based, with specific attention to transition of care needs. Part 2 is the “nuts and bolts” of the program, providing the framework and content of the C-READY program so that it can be implemented in practice. Woven throughout the chapters are vignettes providing patient examples, reflecting the importance of considering diverse sociocultural contexts. Finally, Part 3 highlights additional considerations important to implementation of the C-READY program, including adaptations of special populations and decreasing barriers to care for health disparity populations. Overall, this book is a useful reference for neuropsychologists, psychologists, and other professionals interested in implementing the C-READY program within their professional setting.

Donna L. Murdaugh, Ph.D., ABPP-CN is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of Division 40 (Society for Clinical Neuropsychology; SCN) of the American Psychological Association. Her research focuses on translational neuroimaging techniques and neuropsychological assessment that can provide valuable information on disease processes, refine clinical diagnostics, and inform and support development of targeted interventions. She has mentored a number of diverse trainees in psychology and the neurosciences at the undergraduate, graduate, and pre-doctoral internship levels.

Kathleen M. O'Toole, Ph.D., ABPP-CN is a senior pediatric neuropsychologist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Adjunct Professor of Rehabilitation at Emory University School of Medicine. She is board certified in clinical neuropsychology and certified in pediatric neuropsychology. She has

trained clinical neuropsychologists during graduate school practica, internship, and postdoctoral fellowship for over 27 years. Dr. O'Toole is a past vice president of the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology. She is on the editorial board of The Clinical Neuropsychologist.

Tricia Z. King, PhD, is a tenured professor in the Department of Psychology at Georgia State University (GSU). She is a fellow of Division 40 (Society for Clinical Neuropsychology; SCN) of the American Psychological Association. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers. The overarching goal of her research work is to contribute to advancements in precision medicine, resulting in greater prognostic abilities and enhanced interventions to mitigate neurotoxicity and enable individuals to thrive. Dr. King is committed to diversifying the trainee pipeline and has enjoyed mentoring and training at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She was awarded the GSU Outstanding Undergraduate

Mentoring Award (2020) and has served as the chair of the SCN Scientific Advisory Committee and as a member of the SCN Fellows Committee. Dr. King serves on the editorial board for Child Neuropsychology and is an associate editor of The Clinical Neuropsychologist.
