" Mathematics is often challenging for students majoring in nontechnical fields. This book makes mathematical concepts engaging with examples drawn from baseball and other sports, providing a basis for a solid survey of college math. For students who have taken algebra and geometry. Topics covered include logical fallacies, unit conversions, statistics, probability, finance, geometry, modeling and voting theory"--

Author Fred Worth presents a guide to using baseball as a basis for the study of a wide variety of collegiate mathematical subjects. The author has organized the main body of his text in twelve chapters devoted to logical fallacies, unit conversions, different kinds of statistics, uses of statistics, probability and combinatorics, finance, geometry, voting theory, recording statistics, and a wide variety of other related subjects. The author is a faculty member of Henderson State University, Arkansas. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)

Recenzijas

College mathematics has just become more interesting for many students. Worth has written an entertaining, liberal arts math textbook on the premise that mathematics about baseball would be much more fun than other more-general math texts, and in many ways he has succeeded. This book will be very interesting for fans of baseball or mathematics and could be instrumental in converting the fans of the former into fans of the latter. RecommendedChoice.
