After studying forestry and horticulture in the early 1980s, Tony Russell's career with plants has taken him from Snowdonia, to the New Forest and then to Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire, where he was Head Forester for 13 years until 2002. Since leaving Westonbirt, Tony has become a familiar face and voice on TV and radio, presenting series such as Garden Trail, Roots & Shoots, Britain's Great Trees, Saving Lullingstone Castle and regularly featuring on BBC Radio 4 including on Gardeners' Question Time.
The Cotswolds' Finest Gardens is Tony's 11th book and follows on from such best-selling titles as The World Encyclopaedia of Trees, Cornwall's Great Gardens, Westonbirt-A Celebration of the Seasons and Tree Spotting for Children. He is also editor of the annual publication Gardens to Visit.
In addition to his broadcasting and writing, Tony runs two thriving consultancy businesses. One offers advice and guidance on choosing, growing and managing trees and the other promotes British gardens and encourages more people to visit them.
