Weaving Traditions of Nineteenth Century Central Pennsylvania chronicles weaving traditions in eight Central Pennsylvania counties during the nineteenth century. More than 2000 weavers are documented and their locations listed in the Union, Snyder, Clinton, Centre, Lycoming, Montour, Columbia, and Northumberland county areas. Includes both biographical material on the weavers and an examination of their style and type of weaving. Will appeal to weavers, collectors, and historians because of the significant impact of Pennsylvania upon the weaving traditions elsewhere. Richly illustrated with 15 color and 43 black and white photographs of textiles, textile tools, maps, and weave shops as well as old ads and other documents.
Sandra Rambo Walker is an educator, textile collector, lecturer from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. She earned her BS degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and her MS degree from Bloomsburg State College.
