The authors address the challenges posed by a significant increase in anonymous social media–based threats against K–12 schools in the United States and consider best-practice responses.

With anonymous social media–based threats against K–12 schools rising by as much as 60 percent between 2021 and 2022, school districts across the United States are grappling with how to respond to them. In view of this challenge, the authors consider various approaches and the decisionmaking processes that schools, in coordination with law enforcement and other partners, can take.
