The sequel to "Children of the Arbat" which told of the Soviet experiences in World War II. Rescued from the Gulag, Sasha Pankratov becomes a Soviet tank commander, a position that propels him from the desolation of Siberia to the rubble of Stalingrad, and ultimately to the streets of Berlin.
