John P. Dyson examines the life of Chickasaws in the original homeland, before their removal to Indian Territory in the first half of the 19th century. Drawing on his extensive first-hand research and unique knowledge of Chickasaw language to add to our understanding of this period of Chickasaw and Native American history, Dyson provides new insight into the Chickasaw homeland's true territorial boundaries, place-names and the social structure of Chickasaws who lived there.
