The present volume describes the existing nature, forms, and dimensions of economic, political and social inequalities at a micro rural level and compares them with the Indian macrocosm of increasing inequality, with a view to reveal uneven facets of rural India. It will highlight a detailed appraisal of the ever-growing multidimensional inequalities in contemporary rural India in terms of a more synthetic perspective to explain the nature and dynamics of social inequalities. The book highlights how in rural society inequality is not only prevailing but it is being reinforced by many structural factors. The three dimensions of inequality, namely caste, class and power, do not exist in isolation, rather they are interconnected. As far as rural India is concerned, multi-facets of inequality are observable. Overall, the book provides a deep understanding of inequality prevailing at the grassroots level.
Dr Supriya Singh received her MPhil, PhD and PDF degrees from the Department of Sociology at the University of Lucknow, India. She is currently working as Assistant Professor at Khun-Khun Ji Girls PG College, Lucknow. She has published one book entitled "Commercialization of Hinterland and Dynamics of Class, Caste and Gender in Rural India". Apart from this, she has written two book reviews and eleven research articles in various journals, such as Economic and Political Weekly and Eastern Anthropologist. She is Editorial Advisory Board Member of Cambridge Scholars Press, UK. Her areas of interest include development, stratification and mobility, problems of peasants, land transactions, social inequality, and gender issues in Indian villages. She has received various awards and certificates of appreciation for bringing new energy and ideas to the teaching and learning process. She has also written popular articles in national dailies on various social issues.
