Of the speakers at the Congress, 60 were invited to write papers for this volume that covered their material in an accessible and comprehensible manner useful to both specialist and general mathematicians. The first volume is devoted to pure mathematics, and the second to applied. The topics include integrable connections and Galois representations, the geometry of tame almost complex structures on four-dimensional manifolds, recent developments in differentiable sphere theorems, a tailored finite-point method for the numerical simulation of partial differential equations, a one-parameter family of expanding wave solutions of the Einstein equations that induces an anomalous acceleration into the standard model of cosmology, and statistical analysis in genetic association studies of mental illnesses. The two volumes are paged together. There is no index. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
