Realist literatureand Flauberts novels in particularimitate literature more than life. Yet the fact that they rewrite not only other literary texts, but also art works, has drawn little attention to date. In addition to (real or imaginary) libraries, these texts involve productively an extensive iconographic repertoire from museums, salons, churches or private collections.
