Despite hybrid work becoming increasingly relevant since the COVID-19 pandemic, exactly what the phenomenon entails remains a burgeoning field of research. Matti Vartiainen explores this shift in working culture and what it means for staff wellbeing and performance, as well as how remote work policies can be implemented effectively.

This book assesses the flexibility paradigm which hybrid work hinges on, surveying the elements of hybrid work and how it has been addressed in national policy debates in Europe and telework literature overall. Examining the potential hindrances and challenges of hybrid working as well as the benefits and opportunities that it creates, the book presents important findings on the current implementation of this style of work. Finally, Vartiainen looks to the future of hybrid work, and ultimately argues that combining basic work elements and life spaces with trust-based leadership styles will generate functional organisational solutions for diverse purposes, aims, and contexts.

Studying past remote and telework experiences to inform future research and policy development, this book will prove a valuable read to organisational researchers, consultants and human resource practitioners. It will also appeal to scholars of organisational psychology and management studies.

Recenzijas

'In the ever-evolving landscape of work and an era marked by rapid technological advancements and changing workplace dynamics, this study addresses a critical aspect of contemporary work structures for flexible hybrid work. Matti Vartainen navigates through the challenges and advantages of hybrid work, their contextual demands and enabling resources, offering practical models that can guide organizations in optimizing their work ecosystem. The adaptable nature of the hybrid work model requires thoughtful consideration, and this research contributes significantly to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the future of work.' -- Renate Fruchter, Stanford University, US This book delves into the important and timely topic of hybrid work arrangements. Beyond discussing what these arrangements are and their importance to organizational success, this book delves into practices that can hinder and enhance these work arrangements as well as provides concrete recommendations on how these arrangements should be structured and concludes with discussion of how hybrid work arrangements are likely to adapt in the future. -- Travis Maynard, Colorado State University, US This book offers a thorough, empirically grounded, and integrative approach to hybrid work as an emerging reality that is becoming key in the transformation of work. It provides an excellent model that identifies critical elements and components of this emerging reality showing new facets after the pandemic experiences. It carefully draws attention to the potential hindrances and challenges as well as to the benefits and opportunities to enhance the benefits for employees and employers. I found significant and innovative insights in it really useful for designing, implementing, adjusting, and crafting hybrid work. The book is an excellent companion for researchers and professionals who aim to better understand and anticipate the future evolution of work in a dynamic and turbulent environment and to envision and influence the evolution of the future of work in their organizations and contexts. -- José M. Peiró, University of Valencia, Spain This book is a definitive account of hybrid work. It explores its history, its present, and its future in a fascinating, scholarly narrative. Vartiainen has established himself as the leading voice on the topic. I highly recommend it. -- Jason D. Shaw, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
