Die existenzielle Verfassung des Menschen im Spiegel der Kunst
Der irische Maler Francis Bacon (1909-1992) hat in abstrakt anmutenden und zugleich figurativen Gemälden den Körper des Menschen so deformiert, verzerrt und entstellt, dass Ikonen menschlichen Scheiterns in einem existenziellen Sinne entstanden sind: Seine Figuren scheitern beim Versuch, sich in Raum und Zeit, im Bildrahmen zu verorten. Die Publikation stellt dem uvre des Meisters eine Auswahl zeitgenössischer Arbeiten von Künstlern gegenüber, die in ihrem Werk die Conditio humana gleichermaßen reflektieren. Nathalie Djurberg, Adrian Ghenie, Arcangelo Sassolino, Chiharu Shiota und Annegret Soltau treten in Dialog mit dem künstlerischen Vorbild. Fotografische Porträts, Reproduktionen alter Gemälde, Filmausschnitte und Bilder aus Büchern und Magazinen, die Bacon in seinem Atelier archivierte, schlagen zudem eine Brücke zum Privatleben des Künstlers und regen dazu an, über verschiedene Lebensweisen nachzudenken und den gegenwärtigen Zustand der Gesellschaft zu hinterfragen.Ausstellu

In his figurative paintings, often charged with an abstract character, the Irish painter Francis Bacon ( 1910-1992) so deformed, distorted, and warped the human body that he created icons of human failure in an existential sense. His figures fail at their attempts to position themselves in space and time, within the framework of the painting. This publication contrasts the master s oeuvre with a selection of works by contemporary artists who reflect in equal measure the human condition. Nathalie Djurberg, Adrian Ghenie, Arcangelo Sassolino, Chiharu Shiota, and Annegret Soltau enter into a dialogue with their artistic predecessor. Photographic portraits, reproductions of old paintings, film stills, and pictures from books and magazines that Bacon kept in his studio archives create a bridge to the artist s private life, thus encouraging the reader to think about different ways of life and to question the current existential condition of society.Exhibition schedule: Firenze Palazzo
