From the simple biocontrol processes to complicated manipulations aiming at overproduction of particular enzymes or metabolites, fungi are seen to have many agriculturally important uses. In this companion to the Handbook of Fungal Biotechnology, Second Edition (Marcel Dekker, 2004), Arora (microbiology and mycology, Banaras Hindu U., India) presents 40 papers reviewing biotechnological applications of entomopathogenic fungi, ergot alkaloids, fungi in disease control, mycoherbicides, fungi for controlling nematodes, mycotoxigenic fungi, biofungicides, and more. Agricultural, food, and environmental applications share equal space, each receiving its own section. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Recenzijas

Apart from the high quality and current relevance of the scientific content of this volume, an additional strength lies in the fact that (as well as extolling the virtues) the authors acknowledge the assumptions and limitations underlying the application of their specific toolsthis highly readable volume represents an excellent resource for undergraduates, graduate students, and teachers Mycopathologia, Vol. 159, 2005 This volume represents a valuable resource for students, teachers and researchers .In general, the quality of the papers is high, as is the overall presentation. Inoculum, Oct. 2005 This volume represents a valuable resource for students, teachers and researchers I would recommend its purchase for department libraries such as plant science-related, food sciences, microbiology, agricultural engineering, environmental sciences, as well as university collections and, perhaps, by industry libraries. David Yohalem, Denmark, in Micologists Bookshelf, The Mycological Society of America, October 2005

Dilip K. Arora is a Director with the National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, New Delhi, India, as well as Professor of Microbiology and Mycology at the Centre of Advanced Study in Botany, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. The author or coauthor of over 90 research papers, review articles and book chapters in international scientific journals and books, he serves on the editorial boards of more than a half dozen journals and has helped organize numerous conferences and symposia worldwide. Dr. Arora is the coeditor of Chemical Fungal Taxonomy; Handbook of Applied Mycology, V.1: Soils and Plants; V.2: Humans, Animals and Insects; V.3: Foods and Feeds and V.5: Mycotoxins in Ecological Systems (all titles, Marcel Dekker, Inc.). His current research interests include molecular interaction between fungi and molecular detection of plant pathogenic fungi. Dr Arora received the M.Sc. (1974) and Ph.D. (1977) degrees in botany from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India.
