This book provides a comprehensive and analytical overview of green growth opportunities within a sustainable finance framework in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. It provides policy recommendations to strengthen the response to 'global shocks' such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, and related oil and gas prices fluctuations.

This book combines theoretical frameworks and empirical research examining the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, Red Sea Coral Reefs, and Green Transformation pathways in the Gulf. Through detailed case studies, the book addresses critical challenges including climate change and resource insecurity while highlighting opportunities in Smart Cities, Sustainable AI, and FinTech innovation. By contextualizing global sustainability theories within the GCC environment, chapters on Stock Markets and Environmental Quality, Central Bank Transparency, and Good Governance and Economic Resilience provide actionable insights for regional development. The Healthcare sector perspective and AI Adoption for Sustainable Development in higher education further demonstrate practical applications of green economy principles. Essential reading for policymakers, scholars, investors, and stakeholders, this comprehensive volume enriches the global debate on sustainable finance with specific reference to the unique environmental-economic nexus of the Arab Gulf states.
