The second edition of this comprehensive handbook for UK policing procedures has been revised to reflect new chapters on Scotland and Northern Ireland, the effects of terrorism on law enforcement and new laws and regulations that have been passed over the last several years. Editor Newburn (London School of Economics) has split this large reference volume into four distinct sections that explore the history of policing, the relationship between policing and private security, the day-to-day operations of law enforcement and key issues in modern policing. Intended as a definitive manual for the police themselves, this volume can also be used as a textbook for UK courses in criminology and social policy. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Including chapters on policing and forensics, this title offers a comprehensive overview of policing in the UK, and is a useful reference point combining the expertise of leading academic experts on policing and policing practitioners themselves.
