Contributors identified only by name explore the dialectics of ordinary disaster that has shaped global cultures, pedagogies, and environments at the beginning of the 21st century. The three themes setting the agenda are havoc: Katrina and the crisis of capital; resilience: indigenous pedagogies and the critique of eco-colonialism; and transformations: pedagogy, activism, and the environment of justice. Specific topics include floating bodies and disposable populations at the intersection of Hurricane Katrina and the media, the denatured spirit of neo-colonial social design, and Alan Touraine as the radical sociologist for the sake of social actors and society. The anthology is not indexed. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
