This work was written in response How Would God Vote? Why the Bible Commands You to Be a Conservative, by David Klinghoffer, frequent writer for the National Review and The Forward, which purports to set out the Orthodox Jewish case for supporting Republican policies and orientations towards feminism, marriage, abortion, "intelligent design" anti-taxation, health care, capital punishment, warrantless wiretapping, drug prohibition, and the invasion and occupation of Iraq. The authors, Orthodox Jews themselves, adopt a multifaceted approach to rebutting the arguments of Klinghoffer, most often taking issue with his interpretation of Torah and rabbinic commentary, but other times accusing him of dishonest and inconsistent argumentation or just laying out counter-arguments.
