Henry Furniss was a British political cartoonist and illustrator of the late-Victorian and Edwardian periods, whose work was regularly seen in Punch and other publications. This study of the illustrated platform lecture of the 19th century takes Furniss’s original illustrated lecture, which was titled “The Humours of Parliament”, as its primary example. The book includes the text of Furniss’s lecture and about 150 of his b&w drawings. It also contains a detailed introduction offering biographical, political, and performative contexts and background on the show, which lampooned members of Parliament and other political figures of the day. B&w historical photos are also included. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
