Seventeen international academics contribute 13 chapters examining the growing phenomenon of the international migration of skilled health workers--nurses, doctors, and a range of more specialized health care workers such as pharmacists, radiologists, and lab technicians--from the perspective of the migrants themselves. The chapters explore who migrates, why them, the outcomes for them and their extended families, their experience in the workforce, and the extent to which this expanding migration flow has some relationship to development issues. Following an introductory overview of the topic, individual chapters focus on the migration of health workers from the Philippines, India, Zimbabwe, South Africa, China, Nigeria, Bulgaria, and Fiji, to a variety of locations including the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Greece, and the Marshall Islands.
