An Oratorio based on the story of Judas Maccabaeus's election as the leader of the Jewish People after the death of his father Mattathias and the subsequent wars that ended in the rededication of the Sanctuary of Jerusalem. Thisis a special concert version edited by Frank Van Der Stucken, with a piano reduction of the original orchestral accompaniment. Coming from Haydn's London years, the Oratorio is a setting of English words by the Rev. Thos. Morelland was first performed in London on the 1st April 1747.
