This 60-minute video provides supervisors, trainers, and directors with footage of real-life interactions between staff of infant-family programs and families in situations including home visits in the context of Early Head Start, family support, and early intervention, and drop-offs and pick-ups at child care. It also includes a supervisory session. Following each vignette, discussion between national experts serves as a catalyst in helping viewers hone their own observation skills and encourage reflection on how their own work relates to what they're seeing in the video. This tape is a valuable tool for trainers to help facilitate the development of staff's general observation skills of parent - child, staff - parent, and staff - staff interactions. It will also help staff appreciate the importance and complexity of staff-parent relationships in promoting a child's healthy development, the challenge of balancing and meeting the needs of both parent and child, and the individual differences in children and families.
