Written by an engineer, not a mathematician, who struggled to learn math in high school and in university, this book explains in an informal voice the mathematics that future and current engineering and science students need to acquire. Vinh Phu Nguyen is a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Monash University in Australia. He received his Ph.D. in computational mechanics from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 2011. During his Ph.D. program, he focused on multiscale failure modeling of quasi-brittle materials. Currently, his research interests include computational fracture mechanics (phase-field fracture/damage models, cohesive zone models), and numerical methods for large deformation problems (material point method).
