Deakin (Napier University, UK) provides an overview of problems relating to rural and urban development at the beginning of the 20th century and considers certain methodologies, models, and instruments that may be used to reduce conflicts in the development process. Some areas examined include education and training in international land management, using GIS techniques to evaluate community sustainability in Sub-Saharan Africa, and legal aspects of land reform in developing countries. Material is based on papers presented at the 1999 Second International Land Management Conference which took place in the UK. Selected papers from the conference have been updated and revised in the context of land management and land administration. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
