"Migration and Mobility in the Modern Age is a much welcomed and topical publication, as it eloquently examines the numerous forms of movement from and across Central, Eastern Europe and Russia from a historical perspective and within a transregional framework. The interdisciplinary and transnational character of the volume departs from single country studies and offers an invitation to discuss the region comparatively and bring mobility in dialogue with similar phenomena elsewhere. In this sense, as well as many others, it succeeds admirably. Nicole Svobodny is Senior Lecturer in Russian Literature and Assistant Dean at Washington University in St. Louis. She is a co-editor of Under the Sky of My Africa: Pushkin and Blackness. Jan Musekamp is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences at the European University Viadrina.
