This book lays out a radical new all-in approach to teaching in linguistically diverse classrooms: that everyone, including those who already speak the school language, is included in multilingual pedagogy. The author argues that school language speakers are the missing piece in multilingual teaching and provides a new resource, Linguistically Appropriate Practice Plus (LAP+) to help teachers engage these learners in meaningful language tasks and support their language skills and interests. With all learners on board, multilingual teaching becomes pedagogy that is fully inclusive and linguistically fair.

Recenzijas

In this highly accessible and engaging book, Roma Chumak-Horbatsch extends the scope of Linguistically Appropriate Practice to include school language speakers. Supported by vivid case studies and engaging language activities, the book convincingly demonstrates how an instructional focus on language awareness and exploration generates intellectual, linguistic, and personal power for students and teachers alike. * Jim Cummins, University of Toronto, Canada * In this book, Roma Chumak-Horbatsch draws attention to language itself and its role as a human rights issue. I particularly appreciated how the holistic view of learning is presented through several factors, such as the emphasis on language justice and the classroom as a space for language learning. This book will certainly help teachers better understand the complex world of multilingual learners and speakers. * Hermķna Gunnžórsdóttir, University of Akureyri, Iceland *
