This course has been designed to prepare undergraduate science and engineering students who are studying French for a period of study in France and for career mobility in Europe. It focuses on oral fluency, essential forms of writing and comprehension skills, and prepares students for the types of professional and academic contexts in which they will be likely to use the language. The book offers two levels of access: "Niveau 1" for students who have studied French to GCSE level (or equivalent), comprising 10 grammar units based around topics such as palaeontology, genetics, chemistry, astronomy, mathematics and physics; and "Niveau 2", for students who have studied French to 18+ and those with good passes at "Niveau 1". "Niveau 2" prioritises presentation skills from note-taking and document-handling to writing reports, and culminates in a student-led science project. Both sections are supported by video- and text-based practical activities ("Travaux pratiques"). An audio-visual resource pack is also available and it includes the video extracts used in the "Travaux pratiques" sections, a cassette and a teacher's guide which comprises timetabling ideas, model exams, transcripts to recorded material and answers.
