Kumar and Sharma offer this catalog of plant nutrient deficiencies that can compromise plant growth and the human nutritional value of the resulting crop. Two introductory chapters discuss vital plant and nutrients and how to identify deficiencies in the field. The book then proceeds in several parts covering a range of cereals, legumes, and oilseed crops, the cash crops of cotton and sugarcane, potato and sweet potato tubers, and fodder alfalfa. Potential deficiencies striking each of these crops are covered in a systematic order, with nearly all crop headings including discussion of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium deficiencies, many also discussing sulfur, iron, or zinc, and some discussing calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, and/or boron. Specific crop deficiencies are characterized with photographs, symptom descriptions, developmental features, and most likely precipitating conditions, as well as integrated nutrient management strategies to correct the problem.
