It has been several years since the nuclear medicine community was presented with an outstanding text on bone scintigraphy. Over a span of three decades the value of this enormously important clinical modality has remained undiminished, despite the introduction of new techniques for examining bone, especially magnetic re- nance imaging and positron emission tomography (PET). In fact the positron em- ting sodium fluoride-F-18 was employed as a bone imaging agent over 30 years ago and now finds new value as a potent tool in PET diagnosis. Dr. Elgazzar, a renowned nuclear medicine physician, researcher, author and teacher, has produced an important text on bone scintigraphy at a time when new concepts for use of this modality are on the horizon. His presentation is well gro- ded in the basic sciences and in pathophysiology, an approach which brings a - markable coherence to the text. Correlative imaging concepts are also carefully th- aded through these chapters. The production of a quality bone scan, which will not miss relevant clinical fi- ings because of errors in scanning technique, is not a simple matter, and Dr. Elgazzar emphasizes the caution and care with which the production of every bone scan must be approached, as well as the pitfalls in clinical interpretation. Well illustrated, and containing many tables to succinctly summarize the concepts being covered, this text is remarkably accessible despite its depth and breadth.

Recenzijas

From the reviews:

"..it is one of the best nuclear medicine textbooks and the most complete presentation of the role of nuclear medicine in orthopedics ...This book addresses a difficult topic in nuclear imaging that is often insufficiently covered ba many general textbooks in the field. ..a must have book for all professionals dealing with orthopedic problems....(Michael J. Blend, Radiology, Vol. 239, April 2006).

"This is a fine book that encompasses every aspect of bone physiopathology related to nuclear medicine in orthopaedic surgery. Nicely illustrated and well presented, this book offers comfortable and interesting reading and brings an in-depth insight on the mechanisms of action, the pathology and the pharmacology of the imaging molecules. This volume should be available to every orthopaedic surgeon and trainee." (C. Delloye, Acta Orthopaedica Belgica, Vol. 70(6), 2004)

"Despite the emergence of new imaging methods, nuclear medicine and in particular, osseous scintigraphy, preserves a very particular place in osteoarticular exploration. A.H. Elgazzar performs an update of the various applications in this field. the author has the requisite merit to produce a synthetic work on the entire gamut of nuclear medicine applications in osteoarticular pathology, intended for a large audience from the point of view of specialists as well as those with some experience." (L. Balabaud, European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology, Vol. 16, 2006)

"I greatly appreciated it because it provides a comprehensive and extensive analysis of all the important aspects of nuclear orthopaedics. Because of the depth and breadth of its approach, the book also enables deeper understanding of the potential of new procedures . this book can safely be said to document the state of the art in nuclear orthopaedics. this book should find a permanent place on the shelves of medical libraries because it provides muchinformation ." (L. Mansi, European Journal for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Vol. 33, 2006)
