This book thoroughly explains brain monitoring during anaesthesia for cerebral and non-cerebral surgery. The chapters provide a comprehensive view of neuromonitoring modalities during anaesthesia and transitional care. The book also informs the readers about how to assess the  level and adequacy of anesthesia, how to prevent and detect new damage in the central nervous system, how to decrease and minimize the risk of developing peri-operative neurocognitive disorders and how predicts adverse outcomes in major surgery.

The book is a comprehensive guide for anesthesiologists, critical care physicians and nurses working in the peri-operative and intensive care environments to stay updated on the current brain monitoring modalities during anesthesia, sedation and surgery.

Dr. Francisco A Lobo (MD) completed his residency in anesthesiology at Hospital Geral de Santo António, Porto University, Porto, Portugal. Currently, he is a Consultant Anesthesiologist at Yas Clinic Abu Dhabi, UAE. His areas of interest are anesthetic pharmacology,  anesthesia for awake neurosurgery, brain monitoring during anesthesia and peri-operative medicine. He has several peer-reviewed international publications and book chapters and has delivered numerous presentations. He is the Chairman of the board of directors of the European Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia (EuroSIVA), the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing and member of the ESAIC Scientific Committee (subforum of pharmacology). Previously, he has served as a member of the Council of the European Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) and member of the scientific affairs committee of the Society of Neurosciences in Anesthesia and Critical Care (SNACC).

Dr. Massimo Lamperti (MD, MBA) completed his graduation and residency at Universita Statale, Milan, Italy. He has been appointed Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine in 2016. Since 2014, he has worked in the Anesthesiology Division at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Previously, Prof. Lamperti worked as a consultant anaesthetist and intensivist at the National Neurological Institute Besta, Milan, Italy. His research focuses on the depth of anaesthesia monitoring and brain ultrasound. He has published more than 100 papers and many book chapters in peer-reviewed national and international journals of anesthesiology, critical care, and neurosurgery and delivered many lectures at various conferences. He has served in many scientific subcommittees for the European Society of Anesthesiology and was appointed board representative at the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine from 2015 to 2018. He is a national coordinator in many international neuroscience and outcome research clinical studies.
