Professor Colin R Martin
Chartered Health Psychologist and Scientist, Professor Martin is currently the Clinical Director of the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at Suffolk University and a Professor of Clinical Psychobiology and Applied Psychoneuroimmunology, who also runs a diverse programme of international research. As a clinician, he specialised in drug and alcohol abuse; and as a researcher he has a special interest in the psychobiological interface between physical illness and mental health, particularly maternal and perinatal mental health, to which end he developed the internationally recommended clinical tool for assessing maternal birth satisfaction (the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R)). He has a huge volume of published work, with more than 300 research papers to his name and over 40 books, spanning neurological diseases, developmental and cognitive disorders, mental health, nutrition and brain function and viral diseases such as Covid and Zika.
Dr Alena Lochmannova
Dr Lochmannova is currently an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Care Studies at the University of West Bohemia, Pilsen, Czech Republic, where she was previously Vice Dean. She is a medical, social and cultural anthropologist and ethnologist, with a special interest in criminology and prison populations. with research covering inmate childbirth, body modification, hierarchies and extremism. She has published many papers on maternal health relating to perinatal health, postnatal depression, maternal health literacy, and the birth experience and culture of childbirth, in addition to papers on the rehabilitation of stroke patients and triage of casualties from mass accidents. The use of virtual reality in the education of healthcare professionals is another area of interests, where she has completed work on preparing paramedics for emergencies, the provision of first aid, culturally sensitive patient care, and aggression and violence in hospitals. She has published three books, on extremism among prisoners, the phenomenon of suicide, and the tattoo culture, and has made several appearances on radio and television, as well as delivering a talk for TEDx.
