Creating a beautifully planted pool or water feature is the ambition of many gardeners, and this lavishly illustrated book shows how choosing the right plants can turn the simplest pond into a dramatic statement in any garden.

A helpful section on rock and water design contains a wealth of plans showing different garden ideas, including rocky ponds and pools, raised ponds, wildlife pools, bog gardens, gravel gardens, streams and cascades, and small water features. Each garden plan includes a detailed list of suitable plants to complement your chosen feature.

The success of a water feature depends on the right plant selection. With this in mind, a section on planting the water garden shows how to plan a planting scheme to include the mainstays of the pond, such as oxygenators, along with more spectacular plants such as waterlilies and marginals. There is also clear practical advice on planting techniques, propagation and dealing with pests and diseases.

An all-important plant directory then looks in greater detail at all of the main plant groups, including submerged plants, deep-water plants, waterlilies, marginal plants and moisture-lovers. There are also invaluable sections on other plants that can be grown in association with rock and water features, including ferns, ornamental grasses, trees and shrubs, and alpines. The plant entries are arranged alphabetically within each category, with clear descriptions of each plant, as well as essential information on hardiness, size, and care and cultivation.

With over 300 clear and informative color photographs, this volume is perfect for the beginner as well as for the more experienced gardener who wishes to create more elaborate designs.
