A rapid increase in our understanding of the biology of platelets and their role in disease in recent years has been paralleled by increasing successes with established platelet-modifying therapies in many clinical conditions. This text focuses on the clinical role of platelets in a wide variety of hematologic, cardiovascular and other disorders, providing a practical, clinically relevant handbook for all clinicians and researchers interested in platelets and their role in disease. Covering platelet physiology, bleeding disorders, thrombotic disorders and antithrombotic therapy. Chapters cover all the conventional and less conventional aspects of platelet involvement in disease, with an emphasis on recent clinical developments. Clear take home messages have been included in each chapter to aid clinical practice. With contributions from leading experts across three continents, Platelets in Hematologic and Cardiovascular Disorders is an up-to-date, well illustrated, practical resource for everyone involved in clinical practice with platelet disorders.

Completely new text on platelets in all haematologic, cardiovascular and allergic disorders; a practical resource for all clinicians.

Recenzijas

'Think of a platelet-related topic and the chances are that this book will have it covered along with useful references. The editors have done an excellent job in recruiting experts to write each chapter. The chapters can stand independently, but yet they gel nicely together. We were able to find the most unlikely facts even on laboratory aspects of platelet function assessment. There is also excellent and diverse information on the clinical role of platelets in haematologic and cardiovascular disorders. The chapters are well organised with user-friendly tables and the detailed colour illustrations are a great bonus. Overall this is an excellent reference tool that is also very readable. A 'must buy' for all those involved with platelets!' Platelets 'an excellent handbook that provides a wide range of information in a complete and clear but concise way that will serve as a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the diagnosis and therapeutics of diseases involving platelets. An interesting additional bonus is the accessibility of additional illustrative and textual materials that can be found at http://www.cambridge.org/gresele.' International Journal of Emergency Medicine 'This book actually is not simply an updated version of the previous, excellent, book by the same Editors but represents a completely new book with several important conceptual and organisational changes. The Editors are all involved in studies on platelets at the highest level and coming from different disciplines (Internal Medicine, Pharmacology, Cardiology, Haematology) provide different angles to the subject of the book. The book is handy and well published, with coloured pages and clearly marked tables, headings and subheadings which makes it easy to consult and remember. Overall this is an excellent handbook that provides a wide range of informations in a complete and clear, but concise, way that will serve as a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the diagnosis and therapeutics of diseases involving platelets. AN interesting additional bonus is the accessibility of additional illustrative and textual materials that can be found at http://www.cambridge.org/gresele.' Internal and Emergency Medicine
