This book presents the proceedings of the ‘2nd International Conference on Advanced Surface Enhancement’, INCASE 2021. It comprehensively reviews the state-of-the-arts in surface engineering related techniques and strategies, towards industrialization. The topics include ‘Advances in Surface Engineering’, ‘Surface and sub-surface Characterisation’, ‘Surface Coatings’ and ‘Modeling and Simulation’. With the opportunities and challenges discussed, this book identifies the gaps between research and manufacturing. The innovative ideas presented promote technology adoption in industry, for the future of manufacturing.
Analysis of the Surface Modification of Inconel 718 by Robot-guided Centrifugal Finishing and Vibratory Finishing.- Advanced Surface Processing of a High Strength Aluminum Alloy through Severe Plastic Deformation.- Vibratory Finishing of Laser Powder Bed Fused Stainless Steel 316 Internal Cooling Channels.- Rapid and Stable Plasma Transformation of Polyester Fabrics for Highly Efficient Oil-water Separation.- Influence of Wettability of Micro-nano Structured Lead Bronze on Friction Properties.- Effect of Ablative Layer Thickness on Laser Shock Peening Process Intensity.- Fatigue Strength Improvement Effect of AZ31 Alloy by Multi-stage Wet Blasting.

Dr. Yuefan Wei received her Ph.D from Nanyang Technological University, and continued her research career afterwards. In 2019, Dr. Wei joined the Department of Data-driven Surface Enhancement in Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre, A*STAR, as an advanced development scientist. Her research interests focus on surface engineering, materials and mechanical characterisation, corrosion behaviors of metal alloys, and electronics and devices for energy applications. To date, she has published more than 30 articles in academic and trade journals. Dr. Wei has taken lead in diverse projects to deliver innovative research and development solutions with activate collaborations with universities, research institutes, and industry partners. She is spearheading developing advanced non-destructive techniques for application in monitoring, evaluation and prediction of surface integrity.

Dr. Shuyun Chng received her D.Phil in Chemistry from the University of Oxford. She then joined the Surface Technology Group at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, an A*STAR research entity as a scientist. She then led her group as a deputy group manager, where she is oversees the charting of research directions in functional coatings and surface modifications in the group. Her research interests include antimicrobial coatings, surface chemistry and modifications. Dr. Chng has initiated and driven translational projects to bring different innovations from the lab to industries, through establishing the relevant supply chains and ecosystems for the technologies licensed. Beyond surface technologies, she is now looking to expand the application of surface chemistry and modification into the domain of  sustainability and circular economy.
