A range of social sciences are focused on experiences and impact of migration in advanced capitalist economics at a time when state policies almost uniformly restrict migration and the the entry of refugees. The topics include theoretical perspectives, legal frameworks regulating the employment of refugees and recent migrants, citizenship and the disciplining of migrant and immigrant workers in the US, trade unions and racism in France, and employment initiatives for refugees in the European Union. Like McKay herself, many of the contributors are with the Working Lives Research Institute at London Metropolitan University. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
