"The reason for this book on dementia is three-fold: first, there is a growing recognition that people with dementia become involved with the criminal justice system and need vigorous, informed, compassionate advocacy; second, there is a need for practical, easily digestible information for lawyers about this non-traditional criminal defendant; and third, this book is an attempt to get in front of the curve"--

There is a growing recognition that people with dementia become involved with the criminal justice system. Representing People With Dementia is a practical, easily digestible guide for lawyers working with this non-traditional type of criminal defendant.

The criminal justice system as a whole is not the place for someone with dementia. Jail, or worse, prison, would be absolute torture. This book is an attempt to help those who, because of dementia, are fragile, bewildered, and vulnerable – and to give their attorneys the tools to obtain a fair and just resolution of their case.
