Whether you want a small water feature or a series of waterfalls, this guide provides a host of ideas for using water in your garden. It offers a practical guide to gardening with rock and water, from planning the design and construction to planting schemes and fish care. Peter Robinson, a leading water garden expert, celebrates rock pools and ponds, gravel gardens, wildlife pools and bog gardens, streams and waterfalls, and fountains, with nine special examples of rock and water features. A full-scale photograph of each feature is accompanied by a three-dimensional artwork showing the materials, equipment and plants used. Choose between A Slate Rock Pool, A Small Bog Garden, and A Rocky Stream, among others. With its photographs and clear practical advice, this book should be perfect for the beginner as well as for the more ambitious gardener who wishes to create complex rock and water designs.
Peter Robinson trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. He was appointed a Principal of Capel Manor in 1968 and built up a thriving horticultural college over the next 16 years. While a Director of Stapeley Water Gardens, in Cheshire, England, he designed gold medal gardens for various flower shows, including the internationally acclaimed Chelsea Flower Show. He has lectured widely and now practices as a freelance horticulturist. He is a regular contributor to garden magazines and has also written a number of books on this subject.
