Phenomenology was one of the twentieth centurys major philosophical movements and continues to be a vibrant and widely studied subject today. The Routledge Companion to Phenomenology is an outstanding guide and reference source to the key philosophers, topics and themes in this exciting subject, and essential reading for any student or scholar of phenomenology.

Comprising over fifty chapters by a team of international contributors, the Companion is divided into five clear parts:

main figures in the phenomenological movement, from Brentano to Derrida main topics in phenomenology phenomenological contributions to philosophy phenomenological intersections historical postscript.

Close attention is paid to the core topics in phenomenology such as intentionality, perception, subjectivity, the self, the body, being and phenomenological method. An important feature of the Companion is its examination of how phenomenology has contributed to central disciplines in philosophy such as metaphysics, philosophy of mind, moral philosophy, aesthetics and philosophy of religion as well as disciplines beyond philosophy such as race, cognitive science, psychiatry, literary criticism and psychoanalysis.

Recenzijas

"Sebastian Luft and Sųren Overgaard, with the help of over sixty contributors, have captured the excitement of this evolving patchwork named phenomenology. The Routledge Companion to Phenomenology will serve as an invaluable reference volume for students, teachers, and scholars of phenomenology, as well as an accessible introduction to phenomenology for philosophers from other specialties or scholars from other disciplines." - Donald A. Landes, International Journal of Philosophical Studies

"A fascinating and amazingly comprehensive account of the major issues in phenomenology, written by an international group of scholars who are themselves expanding its scope and making striking contributions to its importance and growth. Especially engaging are the essays dealing with phenomenologys contributions to philosophy and its intersections with other fields of study." - Donn Welton, Stony Brook University, USA

"This impressive volume is exceptionally comprehensive and cogent. It affirms the unity of phenomenology as a movement and testifies to its versatility and vitality as a philosophical discipline. The many excellent contributions makes this an invaluable resource for students and researchers alike." - Hanne Jacobs, Loyola University Chicago, USA

"A remarkable collection that provides authoritative coverage of just about every name and topic that might reasonably be associated with phenomenology and the contemporary phenomenological movement. The distinguished list of contributors shows no editorial bias; the editors own general introduction is excellent; and the diversity of the entries and authors (many of them well-known for work on their topic) make this volume both useful to scholars and accessible to a very wide range of interested professionals. An ideal, one-volume resource, fully worthy of being added to the Routledge Companions series." - Robert Scharff, University of New Hampshire, USA

"Phenomenology is one of the most important movements of the 20th Century and, as the title suggests, this book provides an ideal companion to its study, imparting both a broad overview and illuminating conceptual corners and historical back alleys. The range of topics is wide and well-chosen, the authors expertise deep and their writing clear. It will prove extremely useful to those looking for an initial orientation in the subject as well as to anyone wanting to deepen their understanding or explore less familiar aspects. You really cant go wrong with this book." Lee Braver, Hiram College, USA

"This is a superb collection of essays by leading scholars in the field, covering all aspects of phenomenology. This volume will be an essential resource for students and scholars alike." Taylor Carman, Barnard College, USA "Sebastian Luft and Sųren Overgaard, with the help of over sixty contributors, have captured the excitement of this evolving patchwork named phenomenology.
