Melanie Monteiro began her journey into the world of canine safety in 2002, after adopting the world\u2019s most thrill-seeking, accident-prone Labrador puppy, Taiga. Since then, she\u2019s become a certified pet first aid instructor and canine safety lecturer to countless dog parents, canine professionals and humane organizations. A dedicated dog lover, Melanie has been a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, a grooming crewmember for SPCA-LA, and volunteer for several other L.A. area rescue organizations. In her quest to help dogs lead safe, healthy lives, she has trained with the Emergency Care and Safety Institute, The American Red Cross and the Companion Animal Sciences Institute, where she earned a certificate in canine nutrition. In her past life, Melanie was an award-winning advertising writer in Los Angeles. During her twenty-year career, she created campaigns for many national brands including PetSmart and Pedigree, which provided the foundation for her unique insight into the concerns of pet owners. An L.A. native, Melanie currently lives in Sisters, Oregon, with her husband Mark, the infamous Labrador Taiga, and a constantly revolving guest roster of dogs.
