Loneliness is a terrifying thing.

Three Sisters. Their brother, and his fiancé. The teacher, the doctor, the old woman, and the soldiers stationed nearby. A small town, in the middle of nowhere. Their world is going up in flames, one minute at a time. But can they create the change theyre longing for?

A masterful study of family legacy, misdirected love and the human condition in the world premiere of a new translation by award-winning playwright and Russian speaker Rory Mullarkey.

This edition was published to coincide with the run at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeares Globe, London in January 2025.

A brand new translation of Chekhov's masterful study of family legacy, misdirected love and the human condition.
Anton Chekhov (1860-1904), Russian physician, dramatist and author, is considered to be one of the greatest writers of short stories and modern drama. Born in Taganrog, a port town near the Black Sea, he attended medical school at Moscow University. He began writing to supplement his income, writing short humorous sketches of contemporary Russian life. A successful literary careered followed, before his premature death of TB at the age of 44. He is best-remembered for his four dramatic masterpieces: The Seagull (1896), Uncle Vanya (1899), Three Sisters (1901) and The Cherry Orchard (1904).
