Wanko, who teaches pre-service and in-service math teachers at Miami U. of Ohio, helps teachers develop students' spatial reasoning through the use of logic path puzzles in which solvers use deductive reasoning to place the path that follows specific rules while also using spatial reasoning to get an overall view of what the path would look like. He presents four different types of logic path puzzles--Slitherlink, Hashiwokakero, Masyu, and Yajilin--and each chapter contains information on solving and creating puzzles, along with examples, worksheets, solutions, and blank grids. Spatial Reasoning Puzzles That Make Kids Think! engages even the most reluctant math learner. In this fun and challenging book, students must conquer four types of logical and spatial reasoning path puzzles (Slitherlink, Hashiwokakero, Masyu, and Yajilin). The rules for each type of puzzle are very different, but easy to understand. The challenge is for students to apply their critical thinking skills to new situations and develop new strategies for solving each puzzle. Teacher support is provided for solving the puzzles and also for helping students to create puzzles of their own. Students will be begging for more of these unique spatial reasoning puzzles!

Recenzijas

I would recommend this book for any educator who works with grade 4 students and above. The puzzles could be used for enrichment and small-group activities. They can challenge students at all levels, build spatial reasoning, and provide space for justification of their solutions.,Nicole Shobert, University of Oklahoma,Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, 5/1/13
